Spread Betting

Spread Betting

When betting on sports, players usually choose between two main types of direct or single bets, bets made on one team or side. The first type of single bet is carried out with fixed odds. Fixed odds bets are usually intended for sports with a deficient score and small point differences. European football (soccer) and major league baseball in America are excellent examples of games where one with the lowest odds is considered the favorite. The bettor’s task is to choose a team that, in his opinion, will win, while the coefficients, as a rule, reflect the difference between the power of each team.

Another type of one-time bet is carried out with a range of distance. Usually, this phenomenon is called "spread betting." In sports leagues, where you score a lot of points, and the difference in locations can be significant, the bookmaker needs a more effective way to bring teams closer in terms of bets. If the clear favorite was to defeat another team, then it was evident that the bet for the player would be on the preference. If the bookmaker placed odds on the favorite, the amount that the bet was supposed to bet could be high enough to make the risk disproportionate to the reward. There will also be a chance that all the favorites will shape the outcome of the match, creating a significant risk for the bookmaker.

Long-distance bets are different from traditional bets since you are betting on market movement, not on a specific event. For example, for long-term sports betting, you can bet on the total number of goals scored by a particular team in the Premier League season. The range (spread) can be set to 70 goals. Then you will be assigned the amount per point, which, in your opinion, will be considered the aim described above or below the spread. Then you can bet $ 10 per target on top of the spread amount. It means that for every goal scored by this team for the mark of 70, you will win $ 10. However, if this team scores less than 70 points, you will lose $ 10 for every goal conceded. It is evident that there is a chance of some very high wins, but also it is a risk of losing some of the money. It is a significant risk with long-term rates. These bets have a feature called StopLoss. It will cancel your spread bet with a specific account that you have determined, and then you will incur losses.

When spread bets used

Some sports are better suited for betting with fixed odds; There are several sports disciplines where you can hardly do without long-term rates. In subjects such as rugby, Australian football, cricket, American football (professional and college), and basketball, the favorites would have a significant advantage in a game where they had to win with a considerable number of points. It is then that the bookmaker can intervene and become a kind of equalizer by placing a scatter of points, which makes the winner less obvious.

Example: In college football in American College (NCAA FB), the inequality in power between the two teams can be significant for several reasons, including injuries, recruitment opportunities, and admission restrictions. If, for example, ClemsonTigers played as a team like Prairie View, most experts would expect the ClemsonTigers to win by at least 45 points. Fixed odds would be a crazy number, such as -7000, to win 100. With this in mind, the confidence that the Tigers will win the game will be so high that most people with money will bet and undoubtedly win. If everyone were allowed to bet in this way, the bookmaker would have very little chance of making money. Instead, they are going to publish the Clemson -45 line. If Clemson patrons need to score 45 points, the game, in terms of bets, begins to look very different.

An explanation of how long-term betting works

When online betting sites publish a game using a scatter of points, it usually looks like this:

"Clemson" -45 -110
"Prairie View" +45 -110

The player must make a choice. He can bet on Clemson and save 45 points, or he can take on the Prairie View and take 45 points. If the final score ends with a Clemson 56-7 victory, the wagering results will look like this:

Clemson scores 56 points, subtract 45 for scoring points, and you end up with 11 for Clemson and the same 7 for Prairie View, making Clemson the winner. Theoretically, the result can also be determined by adding 45 to the Prairie View score, resulting in final Clemson 56 and Prairie View 52 scores.

Now let"s use a different assessment scenario. The final score ends with Clemson winning 49-7. Clemson scores 49 points, subtract 45 for scoring points, and you end up with 4 for Clemson and the same 7 for Prairie View, which makes Prairie View the winner.

Regardless of the sport, this is how points-based bets effectively make teams equal in value. Once again looking at the distribution point published by the bookmaker,

"Clemson" -45 -110
"Prairie View" +45 -110

-110 next to the actual scatter of points represents the odds of a bet. Betting odds on both sides of the game are -110. This number represents pretty typical odds for a single bet with a scatter of points. It means that the player must bet 110 to win 100, regardless of which side he has a bet. The difference between the bet amount and the win amount is the bookmaker’s commission for booking a bet.

Determining the commission of a bookmaker

The job of the bookmaker is to offer the same bets on both sides of the game to balance the activity. If they can effectively balance their actions, they will have little or no personal interest in the game, and in the end, they will collect commissions. A perfectly balanced game is a rare occurrence, but when this happens, the bookmaker receives a commission of 4.55% of the total bets, regardless of which team will win.

Example: Using the line above, let"s say there must be 55,000, to win 50,000, you need to bet on “Clemson” -45, and - 55,000, to win 50,000, you need to bet on “Prairie View” +45. The bookmaker gathered 110,000 from both sides together. With betting odds -110, the results will be distributed as follows.

If "Clemson" wins by a margin of more than 45, the bookmaker will pay out to players betting 105,000 (55,000 + 50,000) on Clemson, resulting in a profit of 5,000 (110,000 - 105,000 = 5000).

If "Clemson" wins by less than 45, bookmakers pay players who choose Prairie View 105,000 (55,000 + 50,000), resulting in a profit of 5,000 (110,000 - 105,000 = 5000).

The bookmaker accepted bets in the amount of 110,000 and earned a commission in the amount of 5,000 or 4.55% for this. It was done absolutely without risk to the bookmaker.

For reference: if "Clemson" wins precisely 45, the game is considered to be a tie, or the score is equal to the set handicap values , and all money is returned. To avoid such situations, bookmakers can add 0.5 points per line, which makes the result impossible for anyone.

As a bettor, you must familiarize yourself with both types of bets. It will provide you with great comfort, no matter what sports you decide to use to increase your bank turnover.

Soccer Betting Examples

Spread bets may have passed you if you first read about it. Therefore, below are some examples of sports betting and how it works.

Premier League Chelsea Points: 73

In this example, the spread is set to 73. Thus, you can have $ 5 for this spread. In the season, Chelsea will score a total of 81 points! It is excellent news for you because it means they got 8 points more than the spread goal! You win $ 5 for every aspect over 73, so you get a total of $ 40.

Markets

Only in football, there are different markets for spread betting, some of which apply to other sports. Here is a list of several different spread markets:

Total corner

This spread indicates how many corners will be awarded during the match. If a betting site predicts that a lot of angles will be accepted, they can set the spread within 12-13 corners. You can predict that only 12 corners, lower propagation limits will be awarded. However, if you end up with 20 and you had a bet of $ 10 on this spread, you will incur a loss of $ 80.

First goal minute

Spreads are available to predict the minute at which the primary goal will be scored. For example, a spread may say that the first goal will be scored in 34-38 minutes of the first half. You predict that the first goal will come later, as it is a game between two very well-defended sides. You are right, and the first goal was scored in the 44th minute, right before the break. Because of your $ 10 bet and goal scored 6 minutes after the spread forecast, you won a total of $ 6!

Strategy Tips

Spread bets are not only a complicated concept of bets to earn a headache, but also make complex bets and continuously make a profit. Therefore, here are some tips to keep in mind when using this betting strategy so that you can have an idea of how this can bring you money:

Since the plan is different from traditional bets, there is more to the line here than just your bet, so always choose an even bet.

Make sure you figure out the risks if the bet doesn"t work. As mentioned earlier, it is necessary to use the Stop Loss function if necessary.

Play carefully and responsibly; do not bet on what you cannot afford to lose.

Since long-term bets at the initial stage are quite challenging to understand, make sure that you are aware of the market and the rules before you start spending money.
